since he took over as a young teen, he had never had to worry about a loved one. when he is introduced in the book, he says he doesn't want to deal with a mate. now that Auri is so dear to him, he going thru the worry of maybe 1 day he will not be enough to save her like he was even his parents died

I get what you're saying and I mostly agree, but it seems to me more like, since he had to rebuild his pack at such a young age that he kind of pushed childhood out of the way. Now that he's older and the pack is stronger, his inner unstable teenager is showing.

I don’t understand how this is the guy that rebuilt a pack as a teen to become the second strongest pack. Yet, they couldn’t take on 25 rogues but she could on her own? And all he does is run away & cry.
